Church Retreat 2015 Promo – Camp Wrightwood

The Horeb Mar Thoma Church is planning for the annual retreat for the year 2015 at Camp Wrightwood located at Wrightwood, CA from Sept 4-6 during the labor day weekend. Our main speaker for this year is Rev. Baiju Markose who is currently doing his PhD at Lutheran School of Theology, Chicago. The theme for this year is “Faith-ing Everyday: Reading Signs of our Time” based on Matthew 16:3. Achen will look at how we apply faith everyday in the context of today’s contemporary issues like culture of anxiety, busyness, consumption, media, etc.

Encourage all our members to Sign Up Here. We are looking forward to not just having a time to meditate over the Word of God and seclude ourselves from our busy schedules, but we would have other fun activities such as Archery, Swimming, Volleyball, Basketball and of course our own time around the Fire-Ring. There would be special events for the kids also.

A promotional trailer video is provided here:

Vicar’s Message

Dear Brothers and Sister in Christ,
This month we will be celebrating Missions Sunday (Aug 2nd) and Reformation Sunday (Aug 16th). Please keep the mission activities and all those laboring in your prayers. Our church is involved in different ministries and I encourage you to get involved in any one of the organizations of the church and show your faith through actions. Also remember to sign up for the church retreat. Rev. Baiju Markose will be our main speaker. He is currently working on his PhD. at Lutheran Theological Seminary in Chicago. Please keep Achen and the retreat in your prayers.

Just so that you are aware:

  • Edavaka Mission is continuing its study through the Gospel of John. These Tuesday Bible studies are open to all ages.
  • The Young Families Fellowship is doing a study based on the movie Fireproof. These studies aim to strengthen the bonds of marriage.
  • Our Sunday School will be starting up classes next month, but that doesn’t mean their spiritual education should be halted. Parents are encouraged to have family prayer and devotion everyday at home.
  • Sevika Sangham will be concluding its study on the book of Jonah. We also take up current day issues for discussion during our Sunday fellowship time.
  • The Youth Fellowship has been using a study guide book on developing a commitment in our Christian walk and we will be starting discussions of different contemporary issues.
  • Area prayer groups are studying how to prayer using the Lord’s Prayer as a teaching guide.

Remember to use the church directory during your family prayers.

 Yours in His service,

Larry Achen

Father’s Day 2015

Godly men work diligently to be good fathers and positive role models. A man who is respected by his children is a man destined for greatness. This father’s day we honor our father’s and grandfather’s who has shown us the love and discipline of our heavenly father. Thank you for being there for us.
